shantanudutta garu,

I am also an admirer of his books, which are the products of extensive research. Since I have been to Hydearabad 40 years ago before the extensive development took place I could relate myself to some of the places he described and the way of life of people in the old days of the East India Company.
But I felt sorry for the way the Hindus were treated both by the nawab's people and the few whites of the company.
Imagine each white fellow used to have something like 13 wives!
Definetely a very good read. His other book about the Last Moghul and the treatment meted out to Zafar shows the cruelty of the whites.
Good review.
Ramarao.

I gave up half throughthe book - not because of disenchantment but because I found that  a gap in reading caused too much break in continuity. Also even after a third of the book I found that the main characters were yet to appear. maybe i'll give it another try when I get myhands on it again.
